Ingredients

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz / 396 g)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (30 g)
  • cups chocolate (about 420 g)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Optional
  • ½ to 1 cup chopped walnuts Optional

Equipment

  • Large microwave-safe bowl
  • Spatula
  • Spoon
  • Parchment paper
  • Kitchen spray
  • 11×9-inch or 9×9-inch pan

Method

  1. Heat the Milk and Butter

Combine the sweetened condensed milk and butter in a large microwave-safe bowl.
Microwave for 2 to 3 minutes until the butter is completely melted and the mixture is hot. Stir after about 1 minute to ensure everything heats evenly.
  2. Add the Chocolate

Pour the chocolate into the hot milk mixture. Gently press the chocolate down with a spoon so it's submerged.
Allow it to sit undisturbed for 3 to 4 minutes. The heat from the condensed milk will soften and melt the chocolate.
  3. Stir Until Smooth

Using a spatula or spoon, stir the mixture until the chocolate is completely melted and incorporated.
The mixture should become thick, glossy, and resemble chocolate frosting or brownie batter.
If using vanilla extract or walnuts, fold them in now.
  4. Prepare the Pan

Line an 11×9-inch or 9×9-inch pan with parchment paper.
For easier handling, lightly spray the bottom of the pan before placing the parchment paper.
Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  5. Chill

Place the pan in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours, or until the fudge is completely firm.
  6. Cut and Serve

Lift the fudge out using the parchment paper.
Cut into small squares and enjoy. Since this dessert is rich and decadent, smaller pieces are often ideal.
